The severe flooding in Aceh at the end of November 2025 became the most difficult experience in the life of Dr. Nurdin, an alumnus of the Doctoral Program in Educational Research and Evaluation at Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY), who witnessed his hometown in Peureulak, East Aceh Regency turn into a sea of water and mud after days of nonstop rain.

Continuing the agenda after the opening of the Collaborative Humanitarian KKN, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) took further real action in response to the post-flood situation in Aceh. On Friday afternoon (9 January 2026), the UNY team spread out to various locations in East Aceh Regency and Langsa City to distribute donations, provide free health services, and hand over financial assistance to UNY alumni and students affected by the floods.

In the early mornings in his hometown of Purworejo, Rohmat Wibowo’s day began with the sounds of hoes and footsteps in the rice fields, where his father, Rajiya, worked as a farmer and occasionally sold dawet (a traditional drink) to help support the family. His mother, Sugiatmi, was a homemaker. Growing up in this humble environment, Rohmat learned the values of hard work, patience, and the belief that education is the path out of limitations.

UNY Sends Off Students to Participate in Humanitarian KKN in Aceh — Rector Emphasizes Empathy and Social Care

Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) officially sent off students participating in the Humanitarian Community Service Program (Kuliah Kerja Nyata Kemanusiaan) for the Even Semester of Academic Year 2025/2026, ahead of their deployment to Aceh Province. The send-off and briefing ceremony was held on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, in the Main Meeting Room of the UNY Rectorate, as final preparation before the students began service on January 8, 2026.

Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) continues to reaffirm its commitment to building a culture of excellence by strengthening planned and sustainable student achievement development. Throughout 2025, UNY students achieved various achievements in a range of national competitions under the guidance of the Directorate of Learning and Student Affairs (Belmawa) of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology.

At the December 2025 graduation ceremony at Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY), an inspiring story emerged from Ilyas Fahmi Fathurahman, S.Pd., a student of the Physical Education, Health, and Recreation (PJKR) Bachelor’s Program in the Faculty of Sport Science and Health (FIKK). At just 21 years and 10 months old, Ilyas was recognized as the youngest undergraduate graduate at UNY, earning a cumulative GPA (IPK) of 3.85.

Biology Education Students at UNY Conduct Monitoring of Growth and Identification of Mangroves at Pasir Mendit Beach

Students from the Biology Education Study Program, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) carried out activities to monitor the growth and identify mangrove species on the coast of Pasir Mendit Beach, located in Kalurahan Jangkaran, Temon District, Kulon Progo Regency.

This activity is a follow-up to the 100 mangrove saplings planting program conducted previously in October and serves as a field learning experience for students to directly observe mangrove diversity.

Betran Yunior, S.I.Kom — from selling iced tea with his parents by the side of a school to walking across the graduation stage at Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) — his life journey is a story about dreams nurtured through hard work and perseverance. At the UNY December 2025 graduation ceremony held at the UNY Sports Hall (GOR) on Tuesday (23/12/2025), Betran was crowned the undergraduate graduate with the highest cumulative GPA (3.98) at UNY.

UNY Graduates 1,510 Students, Rector Appreciates High-Achieving Graduates

Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) held a graduation ceremony for its Doctoral, Master’s, Bachelor’s, and Applied Bachelor’s programs for Period II Phase 2 of the 2025/2026 Academic Year at the UNY Sports Hall (GOR) on Tuesday, December 23, 2025. A total of 1,510 graduates were officially conferred their academic degrees and are ready to contribute to society, the nation, and the country.
