From Gap Year to World Debate Champion, Dhiva Angger Proves Perseverance Never Goes to Waste

Not every journey to university starts with an easy step. For Dhiva Angger Sakhena, a student from Sukorejo (Tugu, Trenggalek), the path to Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) actually began with a period of waiting and long struggle. After failing his first attempt to enter tertiary education, Dhiva decided to take a gap year. But he didn’t fill that year with sorrow — instead, he dedicated himself socially. He taught English to children in his village — an initiative he designed himself, as a form of responsibility and service to his community.

97th Youth Pledge Ceremony Wears Traditional Attire, Implementation of Youth Congress from Various Tribes

On Tuesday, 28 October 2025, UNY held a ceremony in commemoration of the 97th Youth Pledge Day at the rectorate courtyard, with solemnity and order.

With the theme “Young Men and Women Move, United Indonesia”, UNY reaffirmed its commitment to continue moving toward a diverse Indonesia in unity.

This commitment was visible in the clothing worn by the ceremony participants, which consisted of various ethnic groups. This is one way to demonstrate that the Youth Pledge was attended by many organizations and unities—not just Jong Java or Jong Celebes alone.

Students at UNY Develop AR Flash Cards Based on the Nyabuk Gunung Tradition for Disaster-Mitigation Education

A team of students at Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) have successfully initiated an educational innovation in the form of augmented-reality (AR) flash cards based on the tradition of Nyabuk Gunung to enhance children’s understanding of landslide-disaster mitigation. This innovation is the result of a research scheme under the Student Creativity Programme for Social-Humanities Research (PKM-RSH) funded by the Directorate of Learning and Student Affairs (Belmawa) of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology.

The PPK Ormawa BEM FMIPA UNY team conducted a workshop for the community of Prawatan Village, Jogonalan District, Klaten Regency, focusing on catfish farming using an IoT-based integrated biofloc-hydroponic system. The event featured Ahmad Ardan Ardiyanto, owner of Dewaponik and a nationally recognized hydroponic practitioner and innovator, as the main speaker.

The workshop covered topics such as biofloc pond management, hydroponic maintenance techniques, and strategies for integrating both systems to support food security and enhance the village's economy.
