UNY actively encourages the development of environmentally friendly and energy-efficient vehicles. One way to objectively measure the value of these innovations is through participation in various competitions. One of the competitions is Shell Eco-Marathon. UNY has consistently participated in this competition since 2018. 

 

In its participation in 2024, Garuda UNY Eco Team won second place at the Shell Eco-marathon Asia-Pacific and Middle East held at Mandalika International Circuit in the Urban Gasoline category on July 2-6, 2024.  The car successfully demonstrated fuel efficiency supported by aerodynamic design. The team achieved an impressive result of 414 km/liter, beating other teams from various countries in the Asia-Pacific and Middle East regions. Not only winning second place, their achievement in the Urban Gasoline category also brought Garuda UNY Eco Team to be selected to participate in the Regional Championship event that brings together the best teams from various Urban categories at Shell Eco-marathon 2024.

 

In the Practice Regional Championship round, Garuda UNY Eco Team showed a promising performance by taking first place. Unfortunately, in the Regional Championship, they had to face technical problems involving the engine and several other components. This condition forced the team to settle for fifth place in the event. "Despite the technical problems, we are still grateful for this achievement. Thank you for the support from the leadership of UNY and all related staff, sponsors and the dedication and hard work of all members of Garuda UNY Eco Team," said Team Manager, Sultan Muhammad Yusuf. "We will continue to innovate and learn from this experience for better results in the future."

 

This achievement is proof that the Garuda UNY Eco Team's innovation and hard work can compete at the international level. The team hopes to make improvements to the technical obstacles faced and is ready to return to compete with higher enthusiasm in the next competition.
