UNY Breaks Barriers with Inclusive Computer-Based Exams for Students with Disabilities

Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) once again demonstrated its commitment to inclusive education during the 2025 Computer-Based Written Examination (UTBK). Held at the IDB Building of the Faculty of Economics, the event featured special assistance for students with disabilities, ensuring they could participate comfortably and confidently. The atmosphere was filled with optimism as students arrived, ready to take an important step toward their academic dreams, supported by technology and compassionate supervision.

One of the inspiring participants was Luky Yulianto, a visually impaired graduate from SLB Negeri Tamanwinangun Kebumen. With hopes of studying Special Education at UNY, Luky prepared diligently through online tutoring sessions. His determination was shared by Ani Lestari from MAN 2 Sleman, who dreams of entering UNY’s Communication Science program. Ani, who comes from an inclusive school, prepared by practicing with online simulations, proving that physical challenges are no barrier to ambition.

Dr. Bambang Saptono, Head of UNY’s Admissions Unit, highlighted the university’s thoughtful preparations. “We supported 10 visually impaired, 5 physically disabled, and 13 hearing-impaired students this year, providing screen readers, special seating arrangements, and sign language interpreters,” he explained. His words reflected UNY’s dedication to creating equal opportunities for all students, regardless of their physical conditions.

The event was a testament to UNY’s mission of inclusivity and equal access to education. With adaptive technology and personalized assistance, students with disabilities were able to participate in the exam with dignity and confidence. Each student’s journey to the examination hall was not just a step toward higher education, but a step toward breaking barriers in academic access.

Through its inclusive approach, UNY proved that education is a right for everyone. The university’s efforts are paving the way for more accessible learning environments, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to achieve their dreams without limitations.
