In an inspiring moment for Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY), Rhoudhotun Fadhillah, a student of the Special Education (PLB) Program, confidently stepped into her thesis defense to present a groundbreaking study. The session, held at the Faculty of Education and Psychology (FIPP) on Friday, December 27, 2024, marked a milestone—not just for Rhoudhotun but also for inclusive education.
Rhoudhotun’s research, titled "Improving Reading Skills Using Wordwall Media for Students with Hearing Impairments at the Junior High School Level in SLB Wiyata Dharma IV Godean," showcased her dedication to enhancing learning opportunities for students with special needs. Drawing from her own experiences as a student with hearing impairments, Rhoudhotun’s work stands as a testament to the transformative power of education tailored to individual needs.
The examination session, which spanned nearly two hours, saw Rhoudhotun engaging with a panel of examiners that included Prof. Dr. Hermanto, M.Pd., Rendy Roos Handoyo, M.Pd., and Dr. Bayu Pamungkas, M.Pd. Her presentation was met with admiration for its clarity and practical contributions to the field. By integrating Wordwall media, Rhoudhotun demonstrated how technology could bridge gaps in learning and significantly boost reading abilities in students with hearing challenges.
“Rhoudhotun’s achievements highlight the importance of inclusive practices in education,” noted the Dean of FIPP, emphasizing the faculty's commitment to fostering an equitable learning environment. "She has shown that limitations are not obstacles but opportunities to innovate and inspire."
The session was more than an academic exercise—it was a celebration of resilience and a call to action. Rhoudhotun's work reminds us of the collective responsibility to ensure education systems empower all learners, regardless of their challenges.
