UNY Students Present “SmartCleaner”: A Solar-Powered Innovation for Sustainable Livestock Farming

Students at UNY once again demonstrated their role in delivering real solutions for society. Through the Student Creativity Programme – Application of Science & Technology (PKM-PI), a student team introduced “SmartCleaner: Solar-Powered Cleaning System & Ammonia Monitoring”, to assist the farmers’ group “Kelompok Tani Ngudi Makmur” in Gunung Manuk Village, Patuk District, Gunungkidul.

The innovation emerged from concerns over a classic issue faced by cattle farmers: the barn is difficult to clean regularly and high levels of ammonia gas pose danger to the livestock.

UNY Collaborates with Sahabat Bekantan Indonesia to Save the Endemic Proboscis Monkey

Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) lecturers from UNY involved in the course “Environmental Science and Natural Resource Conservation” joined forces with Sahabat Bekantan Indonesia (SBI) to provide students with real-world insight into wildlife conservation—specifically the endemic proboscis monkey (Nasalis larvatus).

The lecturers involved were Dr. Anggi Tias Pratama, S.Pd., M.Pd.; Rio Christy Handziko, M.Pd.; and Dr. Agung Wijaya Subiantoro, M.Pd.

Students at UNY Develop “Beetrass” Liquid Soap from Lemongrass and Beet Tuber

A team of five students from UNY successfully developed an innovative liquid soap product named Beetrass Soap. The product is made from lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus) and beet tuber (Beta vulgaris L), aiming to provide both health benefits and skin-care effects.

The innovation won funding through the Student Creativity Entrepreneurship Programme (PKM-K) 2025 from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology.

UNY KKN Students at Dusun Praon Teach the Making of Briquettes from Rice Straw

Students from the Community Service Program (KKN) group 11200 at UNY, stationed in Dusun Praon, Kalurahan Pulutan, Wonosari, Gunungkidul, carried out a community‐empowerment program focused on the use of agricultural waste. Through this activity, they taught local residents how to make environmentally‐friendly briquettes made from rice straw and tapioca flour.

Herbal Soap from Waste Cooking Oil, Vegetable Waste and Fruit Waste

A team from the Department of Chemistry Education, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at UNY — led by Prof. Dr. Eli Rohaeti, M.Si., Dr. Suwardi and Dini Rohmawati, Ph.D. — conducted a community-service programme (PKM) in 2025 with partners in the area of Muja Muju, Umbulharjo, Yogyakarta City, including students’ dormitory (PPM) and surrounding residents.

FMIPA UNY Invites Children with Special Needs to Paint with Eco-Friendly Dyes

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at UNY carried out a painting-workshop activity using environmentally friendly dyes at SLB Bhakti Pertiwi, Yogyakarta. The event was designed to involve children with special needs — including those with hearing impairments, speech impairments and intellectual disabilities — and was supported by a team of UNY lecturers and students.

UNY Rector Opens the 42nd National Sports Day; High-Achieving Athletes Awarded

On Tuesday, 9 September 2025, UNY held a commemoration of the 42nd Hari Olahraga Nasional (National Sports Day) on the rectorate grounds, with more than 1,500 participants including faculty, staff, students and local community members engaging in a mass exercise session.

The event was officially opened by the Rector, Prof. Sumaryanto, with the blowing of a whistle. In his remarks he emphasised UNY’s support for students to contribute in sports at international levels.

UNY KKNM Students Present Moringa Leaf Pudding Innovation in Dusun Bolon

Students from the Community Service Programme (KKNM) group 27381 at UNY introduced a healthy-food innovation in the form of moringa leaf pudding in Dusun Bolon, Kalurahan Palbapang, Bantul Regency. The programme was initiated by ten students: Amelia Nur Hidayati, Milania Natasya Anggraeni, Novita Nanda Putri, Rayita Kumala Defi, Septian Nurma Revinta, Raden Rara Athalia Diva Reswara, Dwi Yusiana Latifah, Mugi Priyono, Adam Maulana Ar Rizky, and Pradito Naufal Ramadhani.

UNY Students Create “BlasOryzin” Biofungicide to Prevent Blast Disease in Rice

A group of UNY students successfully developed an environmentally friendly innovation: a biofungicide made from fermented rice straw and a microbial consortium, named BlasOryzin. The product is designed specifically to prevent blast disease in rice plants and to increase the resilience of the plants.

Sobat Bumi UNY Colours the 80th Independence Day with a Green Action: Budikdamber Education and Planting 60 Mango Trees

On Saturday (30 August 2025), in Dusun Iroyudan, Bantul, a special celebration of Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day was held. Instead of a conventional ceremony, residents together with UNY scholarship recipients from the “Sobat Bumi” programme of the Pertamina Foundation carried out Green Action Chapter #1 under the theme “My Earth is Green, Self-Sufficient Food” (“Bumiku Asri, Pangan Berdikari”).
