JASCO II OPENING FBS UNY

Monday, March 15, 2021, FBS UNY held the Opening of the Javanese Language Course for Foreign Speakers, the Javanese Short Course (JASCO) II with Chinese student participants, as a collaboration between the Indonesian Embassy in China with BIPA FBS UNY, and the Java Language Education Study Program in 2021. The event was held online through the Tencent Meeting.

Present at the event were the Dean of FBS UNY, Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs and Cooperation, Representative of the Chinese Embassy and Mongolian Bp. Dino R. Kusnadi, Pend Attache to the Indonesian Embassy in Beijing Yaya Sutarya, M.Pd. Vice-Chancellor for Planning and Cooperation, Dr. Rer. Net. Senam, Head of WCU Prof. Dr. M. Bruri Triyono, M.Pd., Head of International Affairs and Partnerships Office of UNY Basikin Ph.D., Lecturer of the Department of Javanese Language Education, Head and Secretary of UUIK, Head of BIPA and Public Relations Unit of FBS UNY, as well as BIPA is participating students from China and tutors.

Mr. Dino R. Kusnadi. Consider the enthusiasm of the participants, and based on the success of stage 1, the course participants can communicate and have a deep understanding of Javanese culture. To achieve this momentum, the second program must be continued, and this is at the same time commemorating the Momentum of 70 years of bilateral relations between Indonesia and China, celebrated on April 13, 2020 - April 13, 2021. This is the right momentum to reflect on strengthening ties for the next 15-25 years. The good relations with China have been going on for thousands of years. As  language is the most substantial element for understanding a country's culture, the Indonesian Embassy warmly welcomes this activity, as well as the Chinese public.

Dr. Rer. Nat. Senam, in his speech, said that from its history, Indonesia and China have kinship relations, especially with Mainland China. Indonesian has been widely taught in China, and Javanese has also developed. The cooperation between UNY and the Indonesian Embassy in Beijing will also further support collaboration between countries. We hope that this second wave of these courses will be more successful, as we consider the success of the previous period. Although it is carried out online, it is still very effective as it saves time, energy, and costs. Hopefully, this activity will develop in the next batch to increase the number of Javanese speakers in China and increase cooperation between the two countries both in education and trade.

On that occasion, Mrs. Dr. Ari Kusmiatun, M Hum, as the Head of the BIPA Unit FBS UNY also explained the mechanism for organizing course activities which will last for 1.5 months until the end of April 2021, with topic about the Javanese language and culture. (drsa,ts-Shafia,Vannya)
