FMIPA UNY Students Develop an Eco-Friendly Photocatalyst from Copper Cable Waste and Lime Peels

Five students from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) have successfully developed an environmentally friendly photocatalyst innovation based on Cu₂O/CuO@TiO₂ nanocomposites by utilizing waste copper cables and lime peels. The innovation was developed through the Student Creativity Program in Exact Sciences Research (PKM-RE) as an effort to provide a sustainable solution to pollution caused by textile and batik industrial wastewater.

UNY Students Develop a Low-Smoke Incinerator to Help Kecemen Village Manage Waste More Sustainably

The long-standing problem of open waste burning in Kecemen Village, Manisrenggo District, Klaten Regency, has found a practical solution through an innovation developed by students of Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY). As part of the 2026 Off-Campus Learning Program (PLK UNY Mengabdi), a team of students designed and donated a Low-Smoke Waste Incinerator, an appropriate technology that enables the community to manage household waste in a safer, healthier, and more environmentally friendly manner.

UNY PLK Students Develop Gallon Catfish Farming and “Clean Orphanage” Initiative at Al Lathiif Orphanage

Students from Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) participating in the Off-Campus Learning Program (PLK) carried out a community empowerment project at Al Lathiif Orphanage by introducing catfish farming using recycled water gallons and launching a “Clean Orphanage” campaign. The initiative aimed to foster independence, creativity, and environmental awareness among the children living at the orphanage.

Maggot Circular Action: UNY Students Promote Organic Waste Management and Support SDG 12

Students from the Office Administration Education Study Program, Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) initiated the "Maggot Circular Action" program as an effort to manage organic waste through the cultivation of Black Soldier Fly (BSF) maggots. The program was carried out in Duwet 1 Hamlet, Kalibawang, Kulon Progo, as a community engagement initiative supporting Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 12: Responsible Consumption and Production.

SAKAT Action: A Tangible Contribution of Students to Strengthening Food Security among Boarding-House Communities

A group of active students from the Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program at Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) launched the SAKAT (Satu Kamar Satu Tanaman / One Room, One Plant) initiative. SAKAT is a campaign encouraging each boarding-house room to grow at least one plant, targeting five student boarding houses and involving more than ten rooms and their residents.

UNY Community Service Students Promote Environmental Empowerment, MSME Development, and School Digitalization in Somopuro Village

Students of Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) participating in the Off-Campus Learning Community Service Program (PLK Mengabdi) have officially concluded their service period in Somopuro Village, Jogonalan District, Klaten Regency, after carrying out various community empowerment programs over the course of three months. The program was formally closed through a withdrawal ceremony attended by village officials, community members, and the Field Supervisor Lecturer (DPL), Asih Bekti Cahyani.

Students of the Off-Campus Learning Program (PLK) of Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) recently carried out a community-based organic waste management program through maggot farming, utilizing Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae, in Pandan Hamlet, Somopuro Village, Jogonalan District, Klaten Regency, Central Java. The initiative, titled Eco Point, was designed to address the ongoing challenge of household organic waste that has not been optimally managed within the community.

UNY Students Develop Tiger Snail Shell-Based Nano-Hydroxyapatite Gel to Prevent Dental Caries

Students from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) have developed an innovative dental health biomaterial in the form of a nano-hydroxyapatite (n-HAp) gel derived from tiger snail shells and combined with natural biopolymers from Ajwa dates, miswak, and propolis. The innovation is designed as an enamel remineralization agent while also serving as an antibacterial treatment against bacteria that cause dental caries.

UNY PLK Students Teach Watuadeg Residents to Process Salak Peel into an Economically Valuable Herbal Drink

Students participating in the Field Learning Program (PLK) from Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta carried out a community empowerment initiative in Watuadeg Village by teaching local residents how to process salak peel waste into herbal wedang (traditional herbal beverage) with economic value. The program aimed to optimize the utilization of agricultural waste while opening opportunities for community-based micro-enterprises.
