Leaves Level Up: UNY Students Present Culinary Innovation at Leafestiva 2026

The Gunungkidul Campus of Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) became the venue for Leafestiva 2026 on Tuesday, May 5, 2026. This annual culinary festival carried the theme “One Leaf, A Million Flavors, Leafestiva Full of Creativity.” The event featured a series of activities ranging from group exercise sessions, seminars, and decorating tiwul tumpeng to exhibitions of food and beverage products.

Students participating in the Community Service Program (KKN) from Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) carried out a community empowerment activity through a demonstration on managing organic waste using biopore absorption holes and gallon-based composters in Padukuhan Degolan, Kalurahan Bumirejo, Kapanewon Lendah, Kulon Progo Regency.

The activity was intended to increase villagers’ awareness of the importance of environmentally friendly organic household waste management and to support efforts to improve groundwater absorption capacity through biopore systems.

UNY Students Develop an Eco-Friendly Sensor to Detect Lead in Water

Students from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) have developed an environmentally friendly sensor to detect the heavy metal lead (Pb²⁺) in water, using waste banana peels as a key natural material. This innovation was created through the Student Creativity Program – Exact Research (PKM-RE) as part of efforts to address water pollution and promote sustainable science-based solutions. They are Bonita Arum Ningtyas, Devita Amalia Zuhrida, Martin Imanuel Panjaitan, Kunnasywa Sani, and Melda Novita Rahmadani.
