UNY campus waste in the form of organic, non-organic, and toxic, and hazardous waste. UNY processes organic waste in the form of leaves, twigs, and food waste to make compost. At the same time, UNY makes crafts and eco-bricks from inorganic waste. Other inorganic waste will go into landfills. Types of B3 UNY waste are disposable mask waste, oil waste from workshops, and toxic waste from chemical laboratories.

UNY supports the Instruction on the Single-Use Plastic Packaging and Plastic Bags Prohibition in the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education Number 1 /M/INS/2019. UNY support, among others, through the procurement of drinking water tumblers for UNY lecturers and educators. In addition, UNY provides dispensers indoors and outdoors so that UNY residents can access drinking water without causing disposable bottle waste.
