Student KKN UNY’s Practice of Making Eco-Enzyme as a Real Action Toward a Greener Village

In order to increase community awareness of the importance of organic waste management, a team of students on the Community Service Program (KKN) from UNY carried out an educational activity in Dusun Druju, Desa Margodadi. This activity took place at the home of Mrs Umi (RT 04), who fully supported the implementation of this program.

UNY accompaniment: Turning organic waste into liquid fertilizer, the PKK mothers of Sembuhan Kidul become more independent

A team of UNY lecturers conducted an accompaniment programme in which 40 members of the women’s empowerment group (PKK) in Sembuhan Kidul participated. The goal of this activity was to increase the knowledge and skills of the community— especially housewives— in utilising household and garden organic waste so that it is not simply discarded, but processed into liquid organic fertilizer which can be useful for family farming as well as becoming an economically valuable product.

UNY Students Present “SmartCleaner”: A Solar-Powered Innovation for Sustainable Livestock Farming

Students at UNY once again demonstrated their role in delivering real solutions for society. Through the Student Creativity Programme – Application of Science & Technology (PKM-PI), a student team introduced “SmartCleaner: Solar-Powered Cleaning System & Ammonia Monitoring”, to assist the farmers’ group “Kelompok Tani Ngudi Makmur” in Gunung Manuk Village, Patuk District, Gunungkidul.

The innovation emerged from concerns over a classic issue faced by cattle farmers: the barn is difficult to clean regularly and high levels of ammonia gas pose danger to the livestock.

The primary function of an energy audit is to provide clear information about energy consumption patterns and to identify areas where energy savings can be achieved without compromising productivity or comfort.

Towards Sustainability: UNY's Initiative to Limit Plastic in Campus Shopping

UNY shopping centers, Plaza UNY and Koperasi Mahasiswa UNY, also contribute to the aquatic ecosystem's long-term viability. The administrators of these two shopping complexes have implemented an appeal to limit the amount of plastic bags utilized for carrying shopping products. The appeal is placed near the checkout area in the hopes that all customers will notice and respond to it.

UNY Hosts UI GreenMetric 2024 Online Course to Promote Global Sustainability Awareness

Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) continues to demonstrate its active commitment to sustainability by promoting awareness and education on environmentally responsible practices. One of its major initiatives in 2024 is hosting the UI GreenMetric International Online Course, a global program aimed at advancing sustainable development in higher education institutions. Strengthening the capacity of expertise in tropical biology through FMN OCELOTS

Rio Christy Handziko, S.Pd.Si., M.Pd, a lecturer at the Department of Biology Education of UNY, participated in the Faculty Mentoring Network - Online Content for Experiential Learning of Tropical Systems (FMN - OCELOTS) 2024.
