Utilization of Organic Waste into Liquid Organic Fertilizer (POC) by the PPK Ormawa PKM Center FMIPA UNY Team

The Program Penguatan Kapasitas Organisasi Kemahasiswaan (PPK Ormawa) PKM Center FMIPA Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) conducted a workshop on transforming organic waste into Liquid Organic Fertilizer (POC) at the Balai Desa Barukan, Kecamatan Manisrenggo, Klaten. The event, held recently, was attended by approximately 50 participants, including students, student organization representatives, accompanying lecturers, and farmer groups from Desa Barukan.
The POC introduced was made from everyday organic waste such as dry leaves, fruit peels, vegetable scraps, and rice washing water. By utilizing simple containers like used gallon bottles, waste that previously had no value was converted into a beneficial liquid fertilizer for agriculture. POC has the advantage of faster absorption of nutrients by plant roots and leaves, making it more effective in accelerating nutrient fulfillment compared to solid or chemical fertilizers.
The team consisted of students from various disciplines, including Mathematics Education, Medicine, Sports Science, Biology, Information Technology, Chemistry, and Physics. Under the guidance of Dr. Nur Aeni Ariyanti, S.P., M.P., M.Agr., Ph.D., the team emphasized that POC is not only environmentally friendly but also capable of increasing agricultural productivity and preventing land degradation in the long term.
