To enhance students' sustainability literacy and knowledge, UNY has a soft skills program that directly contributes to strengthening sustainability competencies by shaping students' character, ethics, collaboration skills, and social awareness. Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta systematically provides capacity development programmes for lecturers and educational staff to strengthen sustainability literacy and knowledge. Sustainability literacy at UNY refers to the understanding, awareness, and practical application of sustainability principles in academic, administrative, and daily institutional activities, including environmental responsibility, social inclusion, ethical decision-making, and efficient resource management. In 2025, UNY collaborated with Google and Indosat to conduct the Google AI Indosat Certification training, while financial literacy training was also delivered in partnership with 10 banks to support responsible resource management and institutional sustainability. UNY also implements a sustainability literacy examination to assess participants’ comprehension of sustainability concepts and their relevance to institutional practices. Based on the available data, 61 participants attended the sustainability literacy assessment, and all of them passed successfully. UNY has a strong commitment to environmental sustainability thru structured and sustainable training programs within the framework of a Green Campus. In accordance with the Peraturan Rektor UNY Nomor 16 Tahun 2021, which concerning the Green Campus, which serves as the basis for environmental sustainability policies at UNY. The implementation of the policy is carried out regularly thru workshops, academic programs, and community service involving lecturers and students. For example, Since 2021 until 2025, UNY has consistently implemented a program for applying Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) principles as part of the institution's commitment to creating a safe and sustainable work environment. These activities are carried out regularly thru socialization, training, and preparedness simulations involving the academic community. Thru this, UNY ensures the creation of an integrated safety culture in campus activities, while also supporting sustainability principles in the protection of humans and the environment. In addition, SDG-based training is also conducted thru community service activities, such as training in the production of natural pesticides and sustainable farming practices. This is done as an effort to enhance the competence of lecturers and students in improving their knowledge and skills regarding sustainability, while also providing direct practice in the community to create a sustainable impact.
