UNY Biology Education Students Conduct Field Study on Environmental Science and Natural Resource Conservation in Girimulyo, Kulon Progo

The Biology Education Study Program of Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) conducted a field study on Environmental Science and Natural Resource Conservation in Girimulyo Sub-district, Kulon Progo, specifically in Gunung Kelir Hamlet, Jatimulyo Village, and Tegalsari Hamlet, Purwosari Village. The activity was carried out over two days and one night and was attended by 88 students, accompanied by two course lecturers.

The UNY 2025 KKN-M Kependidikan Team 23928 organized a vermicomposting training program in Singgelo Hamlet, Poncosari Village, Srandakan Sub-district, Bantul Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta. The activity featured Sujoko Slamet, an expert in organic agriculture and integrated farming, who shared insights on waste management strategies while improving soil fertility.

A total of 22 students from the Department of Physics at Yogyakarta State University (UNY), who are taking the “Sustainable Education and Development” course with their lecturer, Dr. Riko Septiantoko, M.Pd., carried out a sea screw pine (Pandanus tectorius) planting action at Pelangi Beach, Bantul, recently. This activity is part of the implementation of learning as well as a concrete contribution by the UNY academic community in supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Realising the SDGs from the Village: UNY Students Process Livestock Waste into Environmentally Friendly Fertiliser

In an effort to create sustainable agriculture while maintaining environmental cleanliness, a workshop on fermenting livestock waste into organic fertiliser was held by the KKNM 24036 UNY team in Kampung Kajor Kulon, Selopamioro, Imogiri, Bantul. The activity featured a knowledgeable speaker, Abdul Rohman, an alumnus of the Integrated Organic Manure/Management (IOM) training who has applied organic fertiliser fermentation technology from cow manure since 2010.

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of UNY, together with the community group Pemerti Kali Code, held an event themed “Elinging Lahar, Karsaning Karya: Remembering 15 Years of the Cold Lahar, Crafting Works for a Sustainable River.” The gathering reflects on the 2010 cold-lahar event on Mount Merapi and introduces an innovation in the digitalisation of the “River School (Code)” programme as part of the DigiCODE initiative for environmental education.

UNY Plants Mangrove Trees at Mendit Beach, Kulon Progo, Supporting SDGs and UI GreenMetric

Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability by planting mangrove trees along the coastal area of Pasir Mendit Beach in Jangkaran, Temon, Kulon Progo, on Sunday, October 12, 2025.

This initiative is part of UNY's ongoing efforts to support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 14 (Life Below Water), and SDG 15 (Life on Land), as well as to contribute to the UI GreenMetric World University Ranking, which assesses universities' commitment to sustainability.
