UNY Collaborates with Sahabat Bekantan Indonesia to Save the Endemic Proboscis Monkey

Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) lecturers from UNY involved in the course “Environmental Science and Natural Resource Conservation” joined forces with Sahabat Bekantan Indonesia (SBI) to provide students with real-world insight into wildlife conservation—specifically the endemic proboscis monkey (Nasalis larvatus).

The lecturers involved were Dr. Anggi Tias Pratama, S.Pd., M.Pd.; Rio Christy Handziko, M.Pd.; and Dr. Agung Wijaya Subiantoro, M.Pd.

Herbal Soap from Waste Cooking Oil, Vegetable Waste and Fruit Waste

A team from the Department of Chemistry Education, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at UNY — led by Prof. Dr. Eli Rohaeti, M.Si., Dr. Suwardi and Dini Rohmawati, Ph.D. — conducted a community-service programme (PKM) in 2025 with partners in the area of Muja Muju, Umbulharjo, Yogyakarta City, including students’ dormitory (PPM) and surrounding residents.

UNY Rector Opens the 42nd National Sports Day; High-Achieving Athletes Awarded

On Tuesday, 9 September 2025, UNY held a commemoration of the 42nd Hari Olahraga Nasional (National Sports Day) on the rectorate grounds, with more than 1,500 participants including faculty, staff, students and local community members engaging in a mass exercise session.

The event was officially opened by the Rector, Prof. Sumaryanto, with the blowing of a whistle. In his remarks he emphasised UNY’s support for students to contribute in sports at international levels.

UNY KKNM Students Present Moringa Leaf Pudding Innovation in Dusun Bolon

Students from the Community Service Programme (KKNM) group 27381 at UNY introduced a healthy-food innovation in the form of moringa leaf pudding in Dusun Bolon, Kalurahan Palbapang, Bantul Regency. The programme was initiated by ten students: Amelia Nur Hidayati, Milania Natasya Anggraeni, Novita Nanda Putri, Rayita Kumala Defi, Septian Nurma Revinta, Raden Rara Athalia Diva Reswara, Dwi Yusiana Latifah, Mugi Priyono, Adam Maulana Ar Rizky, and Pradito Naufal Ramadhani.

Book Discussion of “Profil Budaya Margokaton”: Exploring the Potential and Accelerating the Heritage of a Cultural Village

UNY KKNM 26723 Team Educates Residents of Ngringinan on Waste Management, a Tangible Form of "UNY Berdampak"

The Community Service Program (Kuliah Kerja Nyata Mandiri) Team 26723 of UNY, stationed in Padukuhan Ngringinan, Palbapang, Bantul, carried out education on managing organic and inorganic waste as part of the community service activities. This initiative embodies the vision of UNY “Berdampak” (Impactful) and the “Dikti Saintek Berdampak” programme in building environmental awareness and empowering the community.

UNY’s PKM Team Trains the Residents of Jomboran to Process Organic Waste into Eco-Enzyme

The Community Service Team (PKM) from UNY held a training and practical session for the residents of Dusun Jomboran, Minggir, Sleman, on Friday, 15 August 2025. The session, which took place in a local resident’s house and was attended by 30 participants, aimed to provide education and skills to effectively and environmentally manage household organic waste.

Foreign Students at UNY Learn “Ngarit” in Kampung Emas Krapyak IX: Building Togetherness Through Community Service

An inspirational scene was seen recently at Kampung Emas Krapyak IX, Seyegan, Sleman — a group of foreign students from various countries studying at UNY enthusiastically learned “ngarit” or cutting grass for livestock feed. This activity is part of a community service programme initiated by UNY’s International Office to introduce local culture and build closeness with the countryside community. The programme is attended by students from Pakistan, Egypt, Sudan, Mozambique and Madagascar.

Hijab Ecoprint: A New Path to Women’s Empowerment in the “Kampung Emas” of Seyegan

A number of housewives and micro-small-medium enterprise (MSME) actors in Kampung Emas Krapyak IX, Seyegan, Sleman, participated in training on making ecoprint-patterned hijabs as an effort to enhance skills and economic independence. This activity is part of UNY’s community service programme focused on women’s empowerment through environmentally-friendly techniques and based on local wisdom. Kampung Emas Seyegan has been one of UNY’s assisted villages since 2023, serving as a society-empowerment laboratory.

UNY Transforms into ‘Outer Space’ in the Campus Grand Tour EFH 2025

The campus of UNY turned into a mini-outer-space setting as part of the annual programme Campus Grand Tour English for Holidays (EFH) 2025, organised by the English Education Study Program (PBI), Faculty of Languages, Arts and Culture (FBSB) UNY. This year’s theme, “Adventure Outer Space”, not only introduced English to children but also fostered their interest in science and technology from an early age.
