Strengthening the capacity of expertise in tropical biology through FMN OCELOTS

Rio Christy Handziko, S.Pd.Si., M.Pd, a lecturer at the Department of Biology Education of UNY, participated in the Faculty Mentoring Network - Online Content for Experiential Learning of Tropical Systems (FMN - OCELOTS) 2024. Rio Christy has been teaching courses related to tropical ecology and researching intensively in the field of Tropical Ecology.

Pandansari Beach, located in Gadingsari, Bantul, can become an international beach tourism destination. However, the management of this beach is not optimal, and this beach is relatively less well known compared to other beaches in Bantul. Pandansari Beach has an iconic lighthouse, camping ground facilities, and dragon fruit garden agrotourism.

UNY students have carried out various activities to maintain the sustainability of the sea. One of the agendas is mangrove embroidery at Pasir Medit beach. Sulam mangroove's agenda is HIMABIO's efforts to preserve the environment already existed four times. In addition to Sulam Mangroove activities, previously, HIMABIO UNY has also carried out environmental service actions by planting 1000 mangrove seedlings and monitoring.
