From Organization to Kampus Mengajar: The Journey of Desi Safitri to Becoming Top Graduate at UNY

Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) proudly highlighted the academic and leadership achievements of Desi Safitri, who graduated as the top undergraduate student with a Cumulative GPA of 3.95 at the UNY February 2026 Graduation Ceremony held at GOR UNY on Wednesday, February 11, 2026. Her accomplishment was not instantaneous but the result of a long journey shaped by academic dedication, organizational involvement, and educational service experience.

Desi — a student in the Science Education Study Program, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) — chose to make the most of her time at UNY beyond just pursuing grades. She actively engaged in campus life, serving in the Himpunan Mahasiswa IPA (HIMA IPA) where in 2024 she was entrusted as Head of a Division in the BSO IPA Mengajar organization. Through this role, she participated in various educational activities that strengthened her competencies as a future educator.

Her involvement didn’t stop at internal campus organizations — Desi also joined the Kampus Mengajar Program (Batch 7), a national program that placed students in real school settings. There she gained hands-on experience interacting with students and understanding real challenges in education, helping shape her perspective and commitment to contributing to the field of education.

Originally from Sukoharjo, Ngaglik, Sleman, Desi chose UNY because of its reputation as one of Indonesia’s leading teacher-education universities. She selected the Science Education program for its combination of scientific concepts and exploration of natural phenomena. Throughout her studies, she emphasized time management, discipline, communication skills, and active involvement in discussions and campus learning facilities, all of which supported her consistent academic performance culminating in her high GPA.

Looking ahead, Desi plans to pursue further education in a related field and dedicate herself as an educational professional, hoping that the knowledge and experiences she gained at UNY can benefit future generations. She stated that she wants her learning journey to not only benefit herself but also have a meaningful impact on society.
