UNY’s KKNRD028 Team and the Department of Sociology Education Instill GEDSI Values Through Political Education

A research team from the Department of Sociology Education, Faculty of Social Sciences and Political Science (FISIP), Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY), in collaboration with KKN group KKNRD028, implemented a program to strengthen political literacy based on GEDSI (Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion) in the community of Kanigoro Hamlet, Saptosari, Gunungkidul.

The activity, held at the Kanigoro Hamlet Hall, aims to cultivate an understanding of politics that is equal, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of marginalized groups.

The educational material was delivered in an engaging way using various simulations and educational games. Participants were invited to imagine themselves as village chiefs, experience the perspectives of marginalized groups through role-playing, understand the function of political institutions via the “If I Were” activity, and recognize differences in gender roles using the “Choose Me” game.

A “Gamelan Democracy” activity also emphasized the importance of harmony and cooperation in political practice.

Feedback from the community was very positive. Yoga Setiawan, Chair of Karang Taruna (youth organization) Kanigoro, expressed his appreciation, noting that the program provided new political insight to young people. Meanwhile, Susi Maryani, the head (Dukuh) of Kanigoro, evaluated the program as highly valuable for her community.

This GEDSI-based initiative by UNY also aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals, especially: SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions)

5. Gender Equality
10. Reduced Inequalities
