Closing of KJI XX and KBGI XVI 2025: Civil Engineering Students’ Innovation Grows Stronger

Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) officially closed the series of Kompetisi Jembatan Indonesia (KJI) XX and Kompetisi Bangunan Gedung Indonesia (KBGI) XVI on Sunday (16/11/25) at the Performance Hall of the Faculty of Languages, Arts, and Culture (FBSB), UNY. The closing ceremony was lively, attended by hundreds of participants, committee members, and university delegations from across Indonesia.

The closure followed a three-day competition that showcased civil engineering students’ innovative works in designing and building model bridges and multi-story buildings. The event served both as a display of competence and a collaborative space for future engineers.

In his speech via video call, the Indonesian Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Brian Yuliarto, stated that this event is not just a technical civil engineering competition but a real manifestation of “impactful campus” policy. He hopes students’ innovations can directly benefit society and support sustainable national development. “Through this platform, we see the spirit of collaboration, creativity, and competitiveness among young Indonesian engineers designing efficient, safe, and eco-friendly infrastructure,” he said. He also gave high appreciation to UNY for being an outstanding host, providing the best facilities, and fostering a campus spirit that allows students to create, innovate, and provide real solutions for the nation.

On behalf of the Rector, Prof. Guntur, Director of Student Affairs and Alumni at UNY, explained that the event aims to sharpen students’ competencies in both theoretical knowledge and psychomotor skills in building design, whether in bridges or buildings. “This is an innovative way to support development in Indonesia. Keep up the spirit in carrying out the university’s tri-dharma duties,” he said. He hopes that the experience gained from this competition will be a valuable asset in the future and motivate more innovations for Indonesia’s development.

In the results: Universitas Brawijaya won the overall first place for the KJI (bridge competition). Universitas Negeri Malang was the overall champion in the KBGI (building competition).

Team Sahakarya UNY placed second in the KBGI classification for precast concrete building models. They also received a special award in the “Rapidly Buildable, Sturdy, Durable & Earthquake-Resistant Building” cluster and in the creativity category for building design. Rachaka Team UNY came in second in the “Steel Frame Bridge” category. They also received special awards for “Best Construction Method” and “Best Conformity between Final Build and Original Design.” The announcement of winners was met with enthusiastic applause from the participants, who had competed fiercely in structural design and creativity. The closing was made even more festive with a group photo involving all teams, judges, and organizers.

Through organizing KJI XX and KBGI XVI, UNY reaffirms its commitment to supporting innovation among civil engineering students in Indonesia. They hope this event will inspire the creation of construction technologies that are efficient, sustainable, and applicable in real-world infrastructure.
