UNY Welcomes International Students 2025 in Welcoming Ceremony

Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) held the Welcoming Ceremony and Orientation for International Students 2025 as an initial step to welcome 24 new students from various countries. The event was solemnly attended by university leaders, deans, directors of graduate programs, heads of units, and student buddies who are ready to assist international students during their studies at UNY.

The Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Nur Hidayanto Pancoro Setyo Putro, Ph.D., officially opened the event and delivered a warm welcome. In his message, he emphasized the importance of diversity and international collaboration in the academic environment of UNY. “We are very proud to welcome all of you to the UNY campus. The presence of students from various countries enriches the academic, cultural, and social atmosphere here. We hope you not only gain knowledge but also find valuable experiences about cross-cultural brotherhood,” said Prof. Nur Hidayanto.

The international students accepted this year come from 11 countries, including the United States, Germany, Pakistan, India, Madagascar, Tanzania, Egypt, Ghana, Russia, Tajikistan, and China. They are pursuing studies through various schemes, such as the UNYDiss Scholarship, the Developing Countries Partnership (KNB) Scholarship, the BIPA program in collaboration with Princeton University, and credit transfer programs from DAAD and the University of Münster, Germany.

This orientation is designed to help international students build social networks, both with fellow international students and local students. As part of the orientation, UNY presented two main speakers. Prof. Anita Triastuti, Ph.D., delivered a presentation titled “How to Academically Survive at UNY.” In her presentation, she provided strategies for academic success, including time management, research, and academic ethics within the university environment. Prof. Anita also emphasized the importance of academic integrity and the role of students in maintaining the quality of education at UNY.

The event also featured a cultural introduction session, where students were introduced to the rich culture of Yogyakarta and Indonesia. This session aimed to help international students adapt to their new environment and appreciate the local culture.
