UNY Transforms into ‘Outer Space’ in the Campus Grand Tour EFH 2025

The campus of UNY turned into a mini-outer-space setting as part of the annual programme Campus Grand Tour English for Holidays (EFH) 2025, organised by the English Education Study Program (PBI), Faculty of Languages, Arts and Culture (FBSB) UNY. This year’s theme, “Adventure Outer Space”, not only introduced English to children but also fostered their interest in science and technology from an early age. From 30 June to 11 July 2025, a total of 175 participants aged 4–18 years explored various campus facilities, such as the Gesang music laboratory, Performance Hall, Pendopo Tedjakusuma, Language Service Unit, International Office, and the Rectorate. At certain stations, children engaged in interactive games in English like “Planet Hoppers” and other fun activities.
One participant, Arfan from class L1, wearing a purple astronaut-t-shirt, said in English: “I’m so happy, I walk around [UNY] campus today with my friends.” Each age group had tailored routes and activities according to their English proficiency. Teenagers, for example, were challenged to conduct interviews directly with UNY lecturers and leadership—all in English.
“The EFH is the flagship programme of PBI-UNY which is very sustainable, carries an innovative theme and is packaged in creative learning activities,” explained the EFH 2025 Chair, Amrih Bekti Utami, S.Pd., M.Pd. “This programme aligns with the vision of FBSB and UNY: excellence, creativity, and sustainable innovation.” Besides the Campus Grand Tour, EFH 2025 also featured various outdoor activities like Creative Craft Workshop, Culinary Day, and Field Trip. With a fun-learning approach, EFH instilled confidence, creativity, and independence in participants from an early age, while also introducing the campus environment and use of English in real-life contexts. The programme was not just an educational holiday but also a vehicle for exploring a new world—from planets to professions, from outer space to study rooms.
