UNY and University of Exeter Hold International Webinar on Inclusive Education and Disability Support

Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) collaborated with the University of Exeter, UK, to organize an international webinar themed Inclusive Education and Disability Support in Higher Education. This event served as an important forum for academics, practitioners, and students to exchange experiences regarding the strengthening of disability services and inclusive education in higher education institutions.
The event was opened by Dewi Eka Murniati, Ph.D., Special Staff to the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs at UNY, who emphasized that inclusivity issues in higher education are a global agenda that must continue to be developed. "This collaboration is not just about sharing knowledge but also building a joint commitment to create an academic space that is fair, welcoming, and supportive of student diversity," she stated on behalf of the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs at UNY.
The first speaker, Ubaidah Ningsih AS., Ph.D., Head of the Disability Services Center at Universitas Brawijaya, shared best practices at UB in providing disability services. She explained that UB has developed various services, including peer-support-based academic mentoring, infrastructure accessibility, provision of sign language interpreters, and digitization of teaching materials. According to her, these steps have successfully created a stronger inclusive culture on campus.
From the University of Exeter, Rachel Griffiths, Senior Educator Developer, highlighted the importance of the Transformative Education Framework that fosters a sense of belonging, community, and connection among students. She also presented the Accessible Teaching and Learning Policy, which sets minimum inclusivity standards, such as providing lecture materials in advance and making lecture recordings available. "Students with disabilities require clear communication, certainty, and consistency to ensure they can fully participate in the learning process," she emphasized.
