UNIVERSITAS NEGERI YOGYAKARATA AND PUTRA MALAYSIA UNIVERSITY HAVE A COLLABORATION TALK

Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) and Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) held a collaboration "Household Science and Family Welfare Education" on Monday (15/03/2021). This event was held online via Zoom; the agenda of the event discussed the similarities and differences between Home Science and Family Welfare Education starting from history, development and the future.

In Indonesia, we are already familiar with the term Family Welfare Education or commonly abbreviated as PKK. While in Malaysia, a similar field of science is better known as Household Science. Dewi Eka Murniati, MM. moderated this event and was opened by the Head of the Department of Food and Clothing Engineering Education. Furthermore, the material was delivered by Anis Binti Zakaria, PhD from UPM and Dr Kokom Komariah, M.Pd. from FT UNY.

The concepts of Household Science and Family Welfare Education are the same: improve the quality of life, improve the quality of life, and human welfare. The birth of the PKK in Indonesia cannot be separated from history; this is a form of the women's emancipation movement championed by R.A. Kartini and Dewi Sartika. Their struggle eventually gave birth to a school for women. Meanwhile, the birth of Household Science was originally intended to prepare girls how to be excellent and responsible housewives. "Girls are taught how to cook, sew, make "kuih muih" and various other things related to household matters," said Anis Zakaria.

In-Home Science, there are eight sub-fields, including culinary and dietary, fashion, cosmetology, consumerism, family management, childcare, ID, and gerontology. While in the Family Welfare Program (PKK), there are ten aspects of the formulation that concern intra and inter-family relationships, childcare guidance, food, clothing, housing, health, finance, household management, inner and outer security, and healthy planning.

In its development into teaching science, PKK underwent changes and developments. The PKK, as a branch of science, focuses on family life. Graduates are expected to provide education about the family and conduct research on changes in the family and its environment to improve welfare. "PKK cadres are the spearhead who have high leverage for the welfare of the community," said Kokom.

This event was attended by approximately 200 lecturers and students from UNY, UPM, UNJ and UNESA. The event, which lasted for 240 minutes, was considered very useful and added insight. Prof. Luthfiyah expressed her appreciation for this activity. "The material presented is complete and comprehensive. The material is essential, and it is hoped that in the future it can be expanded not only the scope between lecturers and students, "he said. (Nurul-Humas FT UNY)
