Towards Sustainability: UNY's Initiative to Limit Plastic in Campus Shopping

UNY shopping centers, Plaza UNY and Koperasi Mahasiswa UNY, also contribute to the aquatic ecosystem's long-term viability. The administrators of these two shopping complexes have implemented an appeal to limit the amount of plastic bags utilized for carrying shopping products. The appeal is placed near the checkout area in the hopes that all customers will notice and respond to it.
There are valid reasons to reduce the usage of plastic bags as a shopping tool. This suggests to the fact that plastic garbage is the most common source of pollution in aquatic ecosystems, particularly the sea. The effort is significant given the snowball effect that happens among buyers dominated by UNY academics, with the aim that this trend of minimizing the usage of plastic bags will be adopted by UNY academics when shopping elsewhere.
This is a wonderful practice pattern for UNY academics who want to actively contribute in the preservation of aquatic ecosystems, both rivers and oceans. This strategy demonstrates good synergy among all UNY policymakers to enhance ecosystem sustainability. On the other hand, Indonesia's long history as an archipelagic country that has excelled in marine affairs serves as yet another cause to restore the sustainability of Indonesia's oceans. In addition, efforts to promote marine literacy must be made through training and teaching activities so that UNY inhabitants can better understand the water.
This appeal is part of the efforts to improve SDGs #14 in order to maintain the sustainability of aquatic ecosystems.
