UNY Student Conducted Training on Virtual Laboratory Technology for Teachers in Madura Remote Area
Athi' Nur Auliati Rahmah is one of the Mahasiswa Mengajar (Students' Teaching) for Kampus Mengajar batch I from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (FMIPA UNY). Kampus Mengajar is one of the Kampus Merdeka programs organized by the Indonesian Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemdikbudristek) to assist learning activities from elementary school (with "C" accreditation in maximum) in remote Indonesian areas. Athi' who came from Madura was placed at SDN Guluk-Guluk II, Guluk-Guluk subdistrict, Sumenep district, Madura, East Java. She served in her small village for approximately three months, helping with learning, administration, and the introduction of technology.
In assisting the introduction of technology in schools, she held Information Technology Training for teachers at SDN Guluk-Guluk II for one day, on Monday, 14/6/21. Amid busy teachers assessing report cards, he was given the opportunity by the principal to conduct Information Technology Training: Effective Online Learning using PhET.
"The plan is, I want to hold training with materials for making room meet and zoom, classroom, menti, Kahoot, and Phet. But in reality, there are no signals in the remote area for browsing. So, finally, I can only provide materials for PhET, a virtual laboratory that contains simulations -simulations of science experiments, considering that I have downloaded the simulations long ago in Jogja before serving remote areas. The PhET includes balance/seesaw simulations (can be used for grade 4) and gravity (can be used for grade 6) ", said Athi'.
She is happy with the response from the teachers. Although only PhET she can convey and with minimal equipment. Hopefully, this training can help teachers to prepare for learning media. (Witono,ts-Shafia, Alina)
