UNY's cooperation on the tri dharma of PT with the Ministry of Social Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia is a strategic program with the Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos) of the Republic of Indonesia, a step that strengthens the university's position as a government partner in social empowerment programs. This activity opens access to integrate tridharma activities (education, research, service) with national social programs, enrich the experience of lecturers and students in a real context, and strengthens the institution's reputation as an actor of social development. For the wider community, this partnership has the potential to provide concrete benefits in the form of more targeted social programs, economic capacity support for vulnerable groups, and data-based and academic interventions that can accelerate poverty alleviation and improve welfare.

222 16. Peace Justice and Strong Institutions 16.3.2 Policy- and lawmakers outreach and education Provide outreach, general education, upskilling and capacity-building to policy and lawmakers on relevant topics including economics, law, technology, migration and displacement, and climate change

UNY and the Yogyakarta City Government are strengthening strategic cooperation thru the signing of a memorandum of understanding involving FISHIPOL, FBSB, and the Faculty of Engineering in the fields of education, research, community service, and student internships. This collaboration opens up real-world practical opportunities for UNY academics to test and develop theories in the field and strengthens the university's reputation as a partner in regional development. For the community, this collaboration promotes research-based public services, student involvement in local problem-solving, and an increase in innovation and the quality of city government services.

223 16. Peace Justice and Strong Institutions 16.3.3 Participation in government research Undertake policy-focused research in collaboration with government departments

A lecturer in Sociology Education at UNY, Grendi Hendrastomo, participated in research by the Ministry of Education and Culture and SEAMEO STEM-ED, which evaluated the effectiveness of the STEP-STEM Program in improving the quality of STEM-based learning. This activity contributed to achieving Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions because UNY was involved in strengthening transparent, accountable, and scientifically-based educational governance. The research findings inform strategic and sustainable policies at the ministerial and university levels, expand teacher training, and build cross-sectoral collaborations to create an education system that is fair, inclusive, and responsive to future challenges.

224 16. Peace Justice and Strong Institutions 16.3.4 Neutral platform to discuss issues Provide a neutral platform and ‘safe’ space for different political stakeholders to come together to frankly discuss challenges

UNY facilitates a biodiversity threat mitigation program in collaboration with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Indonesia. This event at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of Yogyakarta State University (UNY) brought together the academic world and conservation practices thru a presentation by Febri Anggriawan Widodo, which discussed the decline in animal populations, Indonesia's position as a megabiodiverse country, and conservation strategies. For UNY, this program strengthens its role as a center for environmental issue-responsive learning and opens up opportunities for international collaboration. For the community, this activity fosters a generation of environmentally conscious biologists ready to contribute to research, advocacy, and concrete actions to maintain the sustainability of Indonesia's ecosystems.

Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) is committed to advancing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through educational outreach that extends beyond the university, engaging the wider community—including alumni, local residents, and vulnerable groups such as displaced people. For example, Janu Muhammad, a UNY alumnus, founded "Sayur Sleman" in 2020 to sell fresh produce online, inspired by his parents' traditional vegetable business. Utilizing Instagram and WhatsApp, he expanded his reach across regions. The social enterprise also supports initiatives like food donations, urban farming education, and entrepreneurship training for youth.
