UNY CONDUCT VEHICLE EMISSION TESTS

Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY), in collaboration with the Sleman Regency Transportation Service, held a vehicle emission test at the Yogyakarta State University rectorate yard(5/9). The vehicles tested include all inventory vehicles of the Yogyakarta State University, including minibusses, buses, and two-wheeled vehicles.

Vice-Chancellor carbon-neutral. Dr. Edi Purwanto, M.Pd., said that this emission test control whether the cars are still regular or not, so they must be responsible for this emission test activity. "UNY will go to the grand matic in addition to preparing plants, including exhaust gas, into consideration so as not to pollute the environment, while to protect water, we have made greenery," explained Edi.

Bambang explained the emission test mechanism that before the test was carried out, the vehicles to be tested were prepared, both with fuel and diesel fuel because to determine the different test equipment. The mechanism is by inserting a tool into the exhaust when the vehicle is started. The test results will also look at the year; for example, a gasoline-fueled vehicle is under 2007, then the carbon monoxide (parameters)is below 4.5, and the hydrocarbon (hc) is 1200 is said to be normal. As for vehicles over 2007 the (co) level is 1.5 and the hcis 200. The high level of co is characterized by, among others: black smoke, thick, increased fuel consumption, caused by dirty air filters, chokes closed, broken carburetor, wrong carburetor setting. The fix is to clean the air filter and adjust the carburetor. As for hc that is too high, it is characterized by lack of power, irregular RPM, high fuel consumption. This is caused by impaired ignition, problematic spark plugs and sparks plug wires, uneven plating, improper ignition timing. The fix is by adjusting the timing, replacing spark plugs and platinum.
