The student team from the Physics Education Department Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) won 2nd Place in the Scientific Writing Competition of UNY Scientific Fair (UNYSEF), organized by the Research Student Activity Unit (UKM-P) of UNY. The team consists of Athi' Nur Auliati Rahmah as the chair (Physics Education 2018), Bian Itsna Ashfa Al Ashfiya (Physics 2019), and Muhammad Rizki (Physics 2019). The closing ceremony and announcement of the winners were held online on 29 May 2021 via Zoom. UNYSEF is an annual writing event organized as a series of UNY Festival events.

"We managed to amaze the judges by initiating the innovative concept of cleaning tofu factory waste with carbon nanodots technology as an environmentally friendly photocatalyst. The liquid waste in our research results from a home-based tofu factory in the Krapyak Tofu Industry Center, Seyegan, Sleman, DIY. We were considering the existence of tofu processing waste. Thanks to the hard work and cohesiveness of this team, we succeeded in going through the selection stages of abstracts, articles, video presentations, and question-and-answers, to be crowned the 2nd winner", explained the student from Madura.

Athi' said that the research developed with the Department of Physics Education lecturer Wipsar Sunu Brams Dwandanu, Ph.D., could provide essential benefits, namely the processing of tofu waste based on the principles of waste and for waste. Therefore, this research is vital to immediately find a way to process tofu waste in the home-based tofu industry in Krapyak so that it does not pollute the environment.

"The results of this study aimed to be a recommendation for the home-based tofu industry in Krapyak and other factories to create an environmentally friendly waste treatment plant to realize regional independence and utilize local potential," he concluded. (Witono, ts-Alina,Shafia)
