Signing UNY’s MOU With the Ngayogyakarta Palace
Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Yogyakarta Palace at Royal Ambarrukmo, Tuesday (5/3). This activity took place in an international symposium on Javanese culture and Yogyakarta Palace manuscripts. The signing of the MoU was carried out by Kraton Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat's King, Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X and UNY's Rector, Sutrisna Wibawa. The MoU discusses the collaboration between UNY and the Yogyakarta Palace in education, research, community service, and resource development, and the study of Javanese manuscripts.
Sutrisna Wibawa welcomed the invitation from the Yogyakarta Palace to study the manuscripts in the Kraton. "UNY has also prepared character education based on local wisdom," said the Rector. And the palace is a source of existing manuscripts, where it can enhance the students' character. The procedure is philological, which is transliterated, translated, and studied. The Rector advised Kraton to start a team consisting of several universities to learn manuscripts from various fields. It aims that this manuscript can contribute extraordinary things, especially in culture and education.
Sultan said that if each university had a faculty of cultural sciences or a center for Javanese studies, especially in Javanese philology and literature, the manuscripts stored in the Widyobudoyo kawedanan and the Sonobudoyo museum could be quickly understood for the sake of the present.(Dedy, ts-Arfian, Alina)
