Observation of UNY KPB BionicBirds in Mt. Merapi National Park

The Student Activity Unit of the Bird Watching Group (UKM KPB) Bionic FMIPA UNY conducted Mersi (Mersani Peksi) or bird observations in Mount Merapi National Park (TNGM), to be precise at Nirmolo Lake. This activity is a program from the Operations field which aims to empower and improve the ability of KPB Bionic UNY members in exploration activities of birds and their habitats. In addition, to increase student awareness of biodiversity in Indonesia, especially bird species. This activity can be a place to introduce new members to old members as well as to meet up with senior members and other Bionicers.

"Mersi at Tlogo Nirmolo this time took the route to Puncak Plawangan. Participants were divided into two teams so that they were less noisy and more focused during observations," said Bionic member Andri Nugroho.

Andri explained that some of the bird species found included forest birds such as ordinary glasses, mountain Brinji, Empuloh beard, purple-headed Walik, gray Srigunting, and ordinary Bentet. Shrub birds such as the Dwarf Brencet, the Branched Brence, and the Javan Tesia were also observed. The Bido Snake Eagle and the Asian Honey Sikep are also on the observation list. In this MERSI activity, at least 30 species of birds were recorded.

The TNGM area, continued Andri, has become one of the favorite locations for bird watching. In fact, several bird watchers groups in Jogja have almost certainly made observations there. This is because the TNGM area has a reasonably high fauna potential. Based on the survey results, it is known that there are 97 species of birds (2,714 individuals, 32 families) and 15 species of mammals (167 individuals, ten families). Of these species, 17 species of birds and four species of mammals are included as protected species according to Government Regulation No. 7 of 1999, 6 species have high conservation value (IUCN 2011), nine species are monitored in the trade in endangered species (CITES), 23 species are endemic to Indonesia. And two species, including feral or not natural distribution of Indonesia or domestic.  (Aghnan/witono, ts-Vannya)
