Celebrating UNY Anniversary with 5.9K Running Competition
A total of 135 participants consisting of lecturers and education staff of UNY participated in the 5.9K run in order to enliven UNY's 59th Anniversary. This race exceeded the target of the committee which targeted 100 participants. The race was held in the rectorate yard near the Kembara statue recently.
The starting flag was raised by the Chairman of the Anniversary Committee, Dr. Pujianto. The route taken is starting from the east of the Kumbara statue to the south towards Jl. Colombo and then turning left towards Jl. Afandi. Until Selokan Mataram turn left towards Faculty of Engineering campus then heading south towards Faculty of Languages, arts and Culture Campus. Then south through the north of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Laboratory then north past UNY Hotel to the Faculty of Economics and Business campus and then turn towards the UNY Rectorate. From the Rectorate yard, participants ran west towards the library and Health & Sport Centre building. Then headed east through Jl. Colombo and finished at the original starting place.
Although they looked breathless because most of the lecturers and staff rarely do running sports that long, but they looked happy. Even some senior lecturers participated in this race and finished all the way. The professors included Prof. Dr. Zuhdan, Prof. Dr. Jaslin Ikhsan, Prof. Dr. Herman Dwi Surjono, Prof. Dr. Subagyo, and Prof. Dr. Sri Winarni. Amazingly, Prof. Dr. Herman Dwi S and Prof. Dr. Sri Winarni were among the winners.
After a short break, the race continued with a 5 x 400m relay run. Each team sent 5 representatives consisting of 3 men and 2 women. The route from the Kembara statue ran north around the rectorate yard then back to the Kembara statue. The relay stick is given to the next runner at the starting place / Kembara statue.
The closing ceremony was attended by the Rector, Vice Rector, Deans, and Heads of Institutions. In his speech, the Rector of UNY, Prof. Dr. Sumaryanto, M.Kes expressed his appreciation to the participants and the committee for the implementation of this competition which took place lively.
