UNY KKNM 26723 Team Educates Residents of Ngringinan on Waste Management, a Tangible Form of "UNY Berdampak"

The Community Service Program (Kuliah Kerja Nyata Mandiri) Team 26723 of UNY, stationed in Padukuhan Ngringinan, Palbapang, Bantul, carried out education on managing organic and inorganic waste as part of the community service activities. This initiative embodies the vision of UNY “Berdampak” (Impactful) and the “Dikti Saintek Berdampak” programme in building environmental awareness and empowering the community.

The team, composed of Lia Intan Nissa; Mellya Fauzika; Shafira Nazwadira Habibbah; Annisa Alifiya Rahmadanti; Gariza Galen Farha Farrel; Andis Ambang Wibono; Ikhsan Arief Nur Rachman; Muhammad Anggi Arricho Inovani; and Merry Dyah Ayu Kusuma, is determined to make waste management a daily culture for the residents.

“We want the residents of Ngringinan not only to know how to manage waste, but also to feel the economic benefits of it. This is part of our mission to bring sustainable positive change,” said Gariza Galen Farha Farrel (Team Leader) on Wednesday (20/8/25).

The event featured a speaker, Neni Widuri Lestari, from the Village‐owned Enterprise (BUMKal) of Palbapang, who has experience in integrated waste management programs. Neni explained waste separation techniques, compost production, and recycling innovations that can deliver added economic value for residents. Residents were also introduced to “Loseda (Lodong Sisa Dapur)” for processing organic waste and the creation of Eco-Enzyme — a multifunction natural solution resulting from the fermentation of sugar, leftover fruits/vegetables and water.

The training was enthusiastically attended by residents who not only learned theory but practised household waste processing into compost and handcrafted items. The education is expected to be the starting step in forming a self-managed waste management system at the hamlet level.

Through this programme, UNY reaffirms its commitment to supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production).
