UNY KKN Students in Sumowono Kaligesing Innovate Herbal Jelly from Family Medicinal Plants

Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) students participating in the Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN) program in Ngadiwulan, Sumowono, Kaligesing, Purworejo, introduced an innovative product: herbal jelly made from Tanaman Obat Keluarga (TOGA), or Family Medicinal Plants. This initiative aims to modernize traditional herbal medicine, making it more appealing and accessible, especially to the younger generation.

The team, consisting of Armelia Lestari, Sabrina Hana Ronindia, Nindya Nurfitriana, Arif Maulana, Arba'atun Nur Fadilla, Sevina Arlianti Azzahra, Amelia Moresti Morent, Ika Sandrina Maulani, De Kresna Wararuci, and Karenina Santosa, developed the jelly using natural ingredients commonly found in the community, such as turmeric, ginger, lemongrass, and temulawak. These ingredients are known for their health benefits, including improving appetite, boosting immunity, aiding digestion, and reducing stress.

The process involves boiling these herbs to extract their essence, which is then filtered and combined with natural sweeteners like palm sugar and gelling agents to create a jelly with an appealing texture. This product not only promotes healthy living but also empowers the community by utilizing locally available resources.
