Warmth in Sharing, Beauty in Caring: UNY Spreads Kindness Through Food Packages for Others

Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) has once again spread the spirit of social care by distributing food packages to orphanages, students, and the surrounding community. This simple yet meaningful action embodies the values of mutual cooperation and humanity that thrive within the campus environment.
Since morning, volunteers consisting of lecturers, educational staff, and UNY students have worked together to prepare dozens of food packages. The boxes were neatly wrapped, adorned with pink ribbons, and arranged in rows ready to be distributed. With cheerful faces, the volunteers moved through several points around the Karangmalang Campus and the Sleman area, bringing messages of kindness from the campus to the community.
One of the visited locations was the Tin Marchamah Orphanage and Islamic Boarding School in Sindudadi, Mlati, Sleman. There, the UNY team was warmly welcomed by the management and the children of the orphanage. Joy was clearly visible when the food packages were handed over directly. Not only at the orphanage, but the team also distributed packages to students residing around the campus dormitories as a form of moral support and care for the students' well-being.
In the afternoon, the activity continued to the Colombo Street area, where volunteers distributed food to street workers such as rickshaw drivers, small vendors, and scavengers. A warm and touching atmosphere accompanied each package handover. Smiles and words of gratitude from the recipients reflected that small acts of care could bring great happiness. The Yogyakarta evening sky seemed to witness the birth of sincere kindness from the UNY academic community.
The activity coordinator, Nori Suryani, explained that this sharing action was not just a routine social activity but part of an effort to instill the value of empathy in the campus environment.
