UNY Assists KWT Barokah in Producing Innovative Herbal Beverages

A community service team from Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY), led by Dr. Suhartini, recently assisted the Barokah Women Farmers Group (KWT) in Jomegatan, Ngetiharjo, Bantul, DIY. The assistance focused on training in processing natural ingredients into herbal beverages in both solid and liquid forms, packaging techniques, and marketing strategies.
The products developed include instant ginger, ginger syrup, and turmeric acid. The training was conducted by Elisabet, a herbal beverage entrepreneur. The session was attended by 40 active members of KWT Barokah, who participated enthusiastically in the practical production of various herbal products.
In addition to production training, participants received education on packaging techniques, hygiene, and sanitation from Regina Tutik, as well as marketing strategies from Lies Endarwati. UNY student members of the community service team also provided training on digital marketing to expand the product's reach to a broader market.
The group leader, Sri Wahyaningsih, expressed appreciation for the activity and hopes that the skills acquired can be applied by all KWT members to benefit their families. “This activity not only provides new knowledge and skills but also encourages an entrepreneurial spirit to improve family income,” she said.
Through funding from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology's BIMA program, the UNY community service team also donated various herbal beverage production equipment, such as pots, pans, stoves, grinders, and other supporting tools. The participants showed high enthusiasm, evident from the numerous questions and interactions during the practical sessions.
This program reflects UNY's commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in promoting health, education, and economic empowerment.
