From Simple Piggy Banks to Big Dreams, PLK Students Instill Financial Awareness in Orphanage Children in a Fun Way

The UPT Child Care Center Wiloso Projo stands as real evidence that students do not only learn in classrooms, but also bring meaningful change to society. Through the Pembelajaran Luar Kampus (PLK) program, a group of sixth-semester students successfully delivered financial education that is simple yet impactful for children in the orphanage.
This activity involved 10 students from various study programs, including Management, Accounting Education, Economics Education, Educational Management, and Physical Education, Health, and Recreation (PJKR).
This cross-disciplinary collaboration became the main strength in designing a program that is not only educational but also engaging and easy for children to understand.
The PLK team consisted of Dzikron Robbi Izzati and Muhammad Haidar Lathif from the Management program; Shaina Ardya Kumala Putri and Nadiella Anggun Amalia from Accounting Education; Atha Rastyaningrum and Ammara Najwa Azzahra from Economics Education; Nofiana Nur Hidayati and Cinta Sari Kamulyaningsih from Educational Management; as well as Muhammad Farhan Furoniq and Ilham Bagus Saputra from PJKR.
The program was supervised by the Field Supervisor Lecturer (DPL), Muhammad Nur Chozin, S.Pd., M.PA.
PLK activities were carried out over three months, from March to May, with a flexible schedule on weekends and outside lecture hours. This allowed students to fulfill academic responsibilities while directly contributing to the community.
One of the flagship programs implemented was financial management education. Using a simple approach, students encouraged children to start saving by creating piggy banks categorized according to different needs.
Through this activity, children were introduced to the concept of managing money from an early age in a fun and interactive way. The program aimed not only to teach saving habits but also to build awareness of financial planning and future goals.
This initiative aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly quality education, poverty reduction, and reduced inequalities.
Overall, the program demonstrates how small steps—like introducing a simple piggy bank—can inspire bigger dreams and a better financial future for children.
