UNY Enhances Students’ Communication Skills Through 12th Career Guidance Workshop

Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) continues to strengthen students’ career readiness by organizing the 12th Career Guidance Workshop Series, themed “Level Up Your Communication Skill,” held at the Suryo Mentaram Building, Cine Club Room, Faculty of Languages, Arts, and Culture (FBSB) UNY.
The workshop brought together students from various study programs and aimed to enhance communication skills as a key competency in facing the increasingly competitive job market.
In his opening remarks, the Director of Student Affairs emphasized that communication skills are essential for students to build professional relationships, express ideas effectively, and improve career opportunities. He noted that strong communication abilities are not only relevant in academic settings but are also critical for success in the workplace.
The main session featured three speakers from diverse professional backgrounds. Aditya Yudha Pradana, Junior HR Manager at PT Behaestex, discussed effective communication strategies in corporate environments, including how to deliver messages professionally in the workplace.
Meanwhile, Evi Putrianti, a lecturer at ISI Yogyakarta and UNY alumna, highlighted the importance of personal branding in career development. She explained that in today’s digital era, individuals are often assessed through their digital footprints across platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, X, and LinkedIn. Therefore, students are encouraged to build a strong and strategic personal image both online and offline.
The session was further enriched by Nurul Aminah from UNDP Indonesia, who discussed effective communication for personal and professional development. She emphasized the importance of self-confidence and clarity in delivering ideas, as well as the growing relevance of communication skills in global and multicultural contexts.
The workshop was moderated by Dr. Tyas Gita Atibrata, who led an interactive discussion and Q&A session. Participants showed strong enthusiasm, particularly during practical simulations that provided hands-on experience in applying communication techniques relevant to the professional world.
The event concluded with a token of appreciation for the speakers and a group photo session. Through this initiative, UNY reaffirmed its commitment to equipping students with essential soft skills to support their transition from higher education to the workforce.
This program contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) by enhancing students’ soft skills and employability; SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) through preparation for the labor market and career development; and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through collaboration with industry practitioners, academics, and international organizations in strengthening student competencies.
