Turning Dreams into Reality: Yuan Amir, a Farmer’s Son, Earns KIP-K Scholarship at UNY

Economic hardship did not stop Yuan Amir from pursuing higher education. A student of Tourism at Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY), Amir has proven that determination and perseverance can turn dreams into reality through the Indonesian Smart Card for College (KIP-K) scholarship program.

Coming from a modest family in Purworejo, where both of his parents work as farmers with unstable income, Amir faced significant financial challenges. However, these limitations did not diminish his ambition to continue his education. Instead, they strengthened his resolve to seek opportunities for a better future.

Amir’s journey began with guidance from his high school counseling teacher, who introduced him to higher education pathways and scholarship opportunities. With strong initiative and independent effort, he gathered information about universities and financial aid programs, eventually choosing UNY to pursue his interest in tourism studies.

The process of applying for the KIP-K scholarship required persistence and careful preparation. With support from his teacher and his own determination, Amir successfully passed all selection stages and was awarded the scholarship. “This program really helps me continue my studies without burdening my parents. I feel grateful and more motivated to study harder,” he said.

Growing up as the son of farmers, Amir developed values of hard work, resilience, and simplicity. He believes that education is the key to improving his family’s quality of life and honoring his parents’ sacrifices. His story serves as an inspiration for young people facing similar challenges, encouraging them not to give up on their dreams.

Amir also shared a message for other students: never hesitate to pursue higher education despite financial limitations. With determination and the support of family and mentors, opportunities will always be within reach.

This inspiring journey strongly reflects SDG 4 (Quality Education) by promoting equal access to higher education through scholarship programs. At the same time, it aligns with SDG 1 (No Poverty), as education becomes a pathway for breaking the cycle of poverty and improving socio-economic conditions.

Overall, Yuan Amir’s story highlights the transformative power of education and the importance of accessible support systems in shaping a more equitable and sustainable future.
