UNY Students Foster New Hope among Foster Children through Entrepreneurship Education at BRSPA

Students from Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) conducted an entrepreneurship socialization program for foster children at the Social Rehabilitation Center for Children (BRSPA) in Bimomartani, Sleman, aiming to inspire independence and build confidence for a better future.
The activity, part of the Off-Campus Learning Program (PLK), created a warm and engaging atmosphere where students not only delivered entrepreneurship materials but also encouraged participants to explore their dreams, potential, and future opportunities. Through interactive discussions, participants were motivated to think beyond their current circumstances and envision a more promising life path.
The program emphasized a human-centered approach, focusing on strengthening self-confidence and personal growth. According to the student team leader, the initiative was designed not merely to teach business concepts but to instill courage and resilience, highlighting that entrepreneurship begins with the willingness to take small steps toward independence.
During the sessions, participants actively shared their aspirations and simple business ideas, ranging from selling food products to building small ventures with peers. This interaction fostered a supportive environment where students felt encouraged to express themselves and develop their potential.
The initiative contributes directly to SDG 4 (Quality Education) by providing inclusive and practical learning experiences beyond formal classrooms. It also aligns with SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by introducing entrepreneurial skills that can support future livelihoods and economic independence.
Furthermore, by empowering vulnerable youth and promoting equal opportunities for personal development, the program supports SDG 1 (No Poverty), helping break cycles of disadvantage through education and skill-building.
Overall, the activity demonstrates how student-led community engagement can create meaningful social impact by nurturing confidence, fostering independence, and opening pathways for a brighter and more sustainable future.
