UNY and Universitas Samudra KKN Students Install Clean Water Tanks in Aceh Tamiang

Students participating in the National Community Service Program (Kuliah Kerja Nyata Kebangsaan/KKN Kebangsaan) from Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) collaborated with students from Universitas Samudra (Unsam) to install clean water tanks (water reservoirs) at several strategic locations in Aceh Tamiang Regency. This activity took place from January 10 to February 10, 2026 and became a real form of student service helping communities affected by the flood disaster.
One of the UNY students actively involved in this program was Muhammad Bilal Syaifuddin, a student from the Elementary School Physical Education (PJSD) Study Program, Faculty of Sport Sciences and Health (FIKK), UNY. Together with the multidisciplinary KKN team, he directly ensured that the installation of the water tanks was carried out smoothly and targeted the right areas.
The collaborative program aimed to support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6, which focuses on ensuring availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.
After the floods, several local water sources became polluted, making access to clean water limited. The installed water tanks are expected to make it easier for community members to obtain hygienic clean water for daily needs.
In addition to installing the infrastructure, students also provided education to villagers about the importance of maintaining environmental sanitation and how to care for the water tanks so they can continue to be used sustainably.
One local village official expressed appreciation for the activity, saying that the clean water tanks were crucial because after the floods, residents had difficulty obtaining water that was not cloudy or dirty.
Muhammad Bilal Syaifuddin also emphasized that the activity was not only about building infrastructure, but also about building shared awareness and community cooperation. He said the collaboration with Universitas Samudra strengthened the spirit of nationalism and mutual cooperation across regions.
Through the cooperation between UNY and Universitas Samudra, this National KKN program is expected to become a model of community service based on collaboration and real community needs, especially in disaster-prone areas like Aceh Tamiang.
