UNY Cares for Aceh: Health Checks and Financial Support Given to Affected Alumni and Students

Continuing the agenda after the opening of the Collaborative Humanitarian KKN, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) took further real action in response to the post-flood situation in Aceh. On Friday afternoon (9 January 2026), the UNY team spread out to various locations in East Aceh Regency and Langsa City to distribute donations, provide free health services, and hand over financial assistance to UNY alumni and students affected by the floods.

The first series of activities was led by Prof. Dr. Heri Retnawati in East Aceh. As a form of social care, the team began their activities after Friday prayers by donating Rp 1,000,000 at Masjid Raya Taqwa in Birem Rayeuk District.

The activities continued at the SMAN Unggul Aceh Hall, where a free health screening was held under the guidance of Dr. Khodijah Adha Kamila, M.Biomed. This screening was attended by 15 participants, including UNY alumni, local teachers, and students. Most participants were declared in normal health condition, with only mild complaints such as dizziness and knee pain that were addressed.

During the event, a reunion gathering with alumni took place. At this occasion, UNY also provided financial assistance totaling Rp 17,000,000 to alumni who were victims of the floods.

Prof. Heri Retnawati explained that this aid came from the collective contributions of the UNY academic community. She emphasized UNY’s strong commitment to post-disaster recovery, providing support in various forms — from logistical assistance through a response post at Universitas Samudra (Unsam), deployment of humanitarian KKN students, to campus policies such as tuition relief for affected students.

A representative of the alumni, Dr. Nurdin (PhD, Class of 2021), expressed his deep appreciation, noting that UNY’s presence demonstrates consistent support for its alumni in difficult times. “We hope UNY’s activities in Aceh bring benefits and help Aceh rise again,” he said.

Meanwhile, a second team led by Prof. Dr. Guntur, M.Pd. (Director of Student Affairs and Alumni) went to the Multipurpose Building of Universitas Samudra (Unsam) in Langsa to meet active UNY students in affected areas. During this meeting, Prof. Guntur handed over cash assistance totaling Rp 33,750,000 to UNY students affected by the floods.

Prof. Guntur reiterated the institution’s commitment to help alleviate the burdens of its students, adding that in addition to immediate cash help, UNY has prepared living support schemes and tuition financing assistance for those impacted.

“This assistance is from the UNY family. We hope it can ease the burden and encourage students and the Aceh community to recover,” he said.
