USE COMPOSTER AS AN EFFORT TO REDUCE CANTEEN WASTE

 REDUCE CANTEEN WASTE

Ananda Canteen, one of the places that provide healthy food at the Faculty of Sports Sciences, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (FIK UNY), has contributed to students, lecturers, and staff. As a form of business managed by Dharma Wanita FIK UNY, the canteen wants to serve various healthy foods, ranging from vegetables, side dishes, and drinks. However, this canteen influences the management of kitchen waste. Therefore, it is undeniable, although sometimes a little, every day, the food taken by customers may not run out, so it becomes waste. However, after the kitchen waste management training, the canteen manager can handle kitchen waste properly.

First of all, separate the kitchen waste by type (organic and inorganic). Organic waste can be directly put into the composter container until the composter is full. Before being put into the composter, the waste is already in small pieces. Next, spray organic waste with a bio activator until smooth. Spray every time you add trash and close the lid tightly. Let stand approximately fourteen days for the composting process to occur.

We will obtain two valuable products from this process (POCS or liquid organic fertilizer and solid fertilizer in the form of compost). Liquid fertilizer can be removed through the faucet at the bottom of the composter and used as plant fertilizer by sprinkling it on the soil around the plant. In contrast, solid fertilizer, or what we call compost obtained, is dried before use. (PD, ts-Arfian, Alina)
