UNY WATES PPM TEAM HELD TRAINING ON CAKE AND BREAD BUSINESS AT WATES CAMPUS
Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) Wates Campus is one of several campuses in the Wates city. UNY Wates Campus is a campus with a vocational concern. It is ready to build human resources around the Wates campus. Catering is one of the departments at the UNY Wates campus, which has strategic potential for the government to support non-formal education for the community in the culinary field. The culinary business is one business that will never go out of style. Various innovations and creativity in the culinary world have made business developments in the culinary world during the pandemic able to survive. The growth of the cake and bread business is a very profitable business.
The Community Service (PPM) Program from the Culinary Department PPM team took the theme "CAKE AND BREAD BUSINESS TRAINING FOR THE COMMUNITY AROUND THE UNY WATES CAMPUS."
PPM activities held at UNY Wates Campus to provide alternative skills in making bread, cakes, and pastries to the community around UNY Wates campus. It aimed to equip and motivate developing businesses to increase income for family welfare, especially for mothers/homemakers and young women there.
In addition to skills, PPM activities also introduce and socialize the Applied Undergraduate Catering Study Program (DIV) at the UNY Wates campus and build positive synergy between the UNY academic community and the community around the Wates campus.
The PPM team collaborated with the Pengasih sub-district Family Planning Field Extension (PLKB) to socialize and appoint residents who want to learn to make cakes and bread. The PPM activity held at the Pastry Laboratory of UNY Wates Campus lasted for two days, Wednesday, 2 June, and Friday, 4 June 2021. The PPM team consisted of 5 Lecturers and 2 Students of Catering from the Applied Undergraduate Department. 10 people participated in the training, which consistently implemented health protocols. The products made are various sweetbreads, cakes, chiffon, and different kinds of pastries with an easy manufacturing process, simple tools, and participants' applications after participating in the program.
