Supporting Halal Industries, UNY Develop a Strengthen Character 5R Model

5R are ringkas, rapi, resik, rawat, rajin, (brief, neat, clean, care, diligent) inspired by how to arrange the workplace.

To support the halal industry, The Engineering Faculty (FT) UNY is in the process of researching The Strengthen Character 5R Model.

The research is a cooperation project from The Mechanical Engineering Education Study Programme, FT UNY, consist of Syukri Fathudin Achmad Widodo, Apri Nuryanto, Chrisna Tri Harjanto, and a lecturer from The International Institute for Halal Research and Training (INHART) International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), Betania Kartika.

As Syukri stated, the 5R concept is brief, neat, clean, care, and diligent.

The output of the concept is effectiveness, efficiency, productivity, and safety in the workplace.

“ The innovation of the strengthening of 5R character will become an important foundation on supporting Halal industries” as he says in Focus Group Discussion (FGD) in the online meeting, Wednesday (29/10), as the quote in UNY page, Monday (1/11).

Later, the 5r concept will be based on input, process, and output that have been combined in a curriculum structure, learning-teaching activity, and learning materials.

From the 5r concept, it is the hope to produce such a competent graduate that is ready to work in the halal industries.

“Now, the request for the halal product inside and outside the country will increase from year to year, as we see the halal product in Indonesia, Malaysia up to japan. As well as other halal products such as cosmetics for muslimah (Islamic women)”, he explains.

The big potency of the halal industry to supply the demands, inside or outside the country, reflected from how big is the ratio of halal product consumption in Indonesia.

“ As the development of the strengthened 5R character model in UNY and IIUM students, it is expected that when they graduate they’d soon work and contribute in halal product industries, not only in Indonesia and Malaysia but also in the world,” he hoped.

“The development of this model is none other than the effort to spread the idea of character education from every strategy to build a student with character, moreover 5R,” he continued.

Unfortunately, the development of the halal industry in Indonesia is still focused on the food and cosmetic section.

Even though there are still many halal industry possibilities that can be developed.

“ I hope from this model, later, students will have enough soft-skill ability to answer all the questions ahead,” he finished. (ts-vannya)
