Maintaining Air Quality through Routine Testing

Testing of ambient air quality and stationary source emissions in the campus environment of Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) is carried out routinely under the coordination of the UNY Center for Disaster Mitigation and Climate Change each semester. The testing is UNY's effort to monitor air quality on campus and the environment around the Karangmalang and Wates campuses. Regarding the stationary source emission testing, the team tested the emission level from the generator chimney.

"Air quality testing is useful to provide information about air conditions in and around the campus through regular monitoring. Through this activity, we will have measurable data in creating a healthier campus environment, as well as reducing the risk of disease due to air pollution," said Dr. Tien Aminatun, S.Si., M.Si., Head of the Center for Disaster Mitigation and Climate Change UNY.

The implementation of ambient air quality testing activities and emissions of stationary sources is part of the evidence in the reporting document for the performance of the Environmental Management Plan and Environmental Monitoring Plan (RKL-RPL) of the UNY campus every semester. Internally, this data is also an input in preparing UNY policies related to sustainable environmental management. (Yarso Nurbowo, Tj.lak)
