Disability Service Study Center

Various policies and programs have regulated the rights of persons with disabilities in Indonesia. As a result, all Indonesian citizens have equal opportunities in education, technology, arts, and culture to improve their quality of life (Republic of Indonesia Constitution (UUD RI) 1945). However, the educational participation rate for persons with disabilities is still minimal. This issue has prompted the Center for Disability Studies and Services establishment.

 

In the main courtroom of LPPM UNY, a seminar entitled "Implementation of Inclusive Higher Education Policies"  regarding the Center for Study and Disability Services of LPPM UNY's launching. 70 people, including academics, researchers, students, persons with disabilities, and the public, attended this event. Who cares about people with disabilities.

 

UNY Rector, Prof. Sutrisna Wibawa, M.Pd., opened this activity. He explained that UNY is committed to realizing an inclusive campus by the mandate of laws and government regulations and facilitating the formation of disability service units. UNY, as a State University, is obliged to provide this service. Accordingly, UNY has built various facilities to accommodate the interests of persons with disabilities, such as ramps, lifts, and various learning facilities.

 

Sutrisna Wibawa emphasized, "We need multidisciplinary work in disability services, and the existence of this study center can accommodate this."

 

The Director delivered the keynote speech at this seminar of Learning of the Directorate General of Learning and Students of the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education, Dr. Ir. Paristiyanti Nurwardani, MP., conveys the Policy of the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education in the implementation of PT Inclusive.

 

Paristiyanti Nurwardani told lecturers when teaching. They needed to provide 1 to 2 minutes to remind students that individuals have unique needs around them. Although they are not people who always depend on others, they were able to empower like other humans. We hoped that students would care more about people with disabilities (disability awareness) with this learning.

 

Paristiyanti Nurwardani also conveyed the 7M policies covering: Mission, Management, People, Methods, Materials, Money, and Marketing. One of the implementations is that the government provides 1000 scholarships for people with disabilities. However, it is unfortunate that only a small number of people with disabilities take advantage of it. (kiromim/ags,ts-Shafia, Alina)
