CO-MON, CARBON MONOXIDE GAS DETECTOR

Five students of Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) made a CO (monoxide carbon) monitoring tool for automotive repair shops. The CO gas level monitoring tool was named CO-MON or short for CO-Monitoring.

The group consisting of Muhammad Dinata, Singgih Bekti, Enggar Dwi Dermwan, Eva Kurnia Sari, and Syahril Farkhan Abidi succeeded in obtaining research funding in the Technology Applications Student Creativity Program in 2017.

One of the team members, Enggar from the Automotive Engineering Education Department, explained that tools such as CO-MON were necessary to complement K3 in automotive workshops.

CO-MON itself is a tool that can detect the CO gas content in the room. It can take early prevention so that the accumulation of CO gas does not accumulate and is increasingly dangerous. This tool can automatically work to turn on the emergency fan if it has exceeded a predetermined limit.

Meanwhile, Singgih explained that this tool could work automatically and monitor via an Android smartphone. "This CO-MON can display CO levels and executes it automatically so that it activates the actuator so that CO gas does not accumulate more," said Singgih.

This group emphasized the importance of this tool because CO gas is a gas that is harmful to health. Eva, one of the team members from Physics Education, explained that we could not feel, see, and hear the CO gas, but it is dangerous. "So we hope that this tool can be used, especially for the benefit of workers, technicians, and customers who often interact in automotive workshops," he concluded. (hryo, ts-Alina)
