Perseverance and determination have led Yasmin Nur Haniifah to achieve an inspiring milestone. A student with a physical disability (tunadaksa), Yasmin successfully passed the 2026 National Selection Based on Test (SNBT) and was admitted to the Bachelor’s Program in Special Education (Pendidikan Luar Biasa), Faculty of Education, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY). Her achievement demonstrates that physical limitations are never a barrier to pursuing higher education and realizing one’s dreams.

Born on March 11, 2008, and a graduate of SMA Negeri 2 Ngaglik, Sleman, Yasmin admitted that she did not undergo any special preparation for the SNBT. Instead, she relied on consistent independent study at home, complemented by attending preparatory classes for the Academic Competency Test (TKA) during the early stage of Grade 11. “I didn’t make any special preparations. I only joined TKA preparation classes in the early part of Grade 11 and continued studying independently at home,” Yasmin explained.

Yasmin’s success is the result of discipline, persistence, and unwavering support from her family and school. Throughout her educational journey, she never allowed her physical condition to diminish her enthusiasm for learning or her determination to achieve her goals.

According to Yasmin, choosing Special Education at UNY was not merely about pursuing a university degree. She hopes to deepen her understanding of inclusive education and eventually contribute to improving educational opportunities for children with disabilities in Indonesia.

Her family has been one of her greatest sources of encouragement. Their continuous support motivated Yasmin to remain optimistic despite the challenges she faced. She also expressed her gratitude to her teachers, who consistently believed in her abilities and encouraged her to continue pursuing higher education.

Professor Ishartiwi, Head of the UNY Disability Services Center (PsLD), emphasized that Yasmin’s accomplishment reflects UNY’s commitment to inclusive education. “UNY is committed to providing equal educational opportunities for everyone, including students with disabilities. We continue to improve facilities, services, and academic support so that all students can develop their potential without discrimination,” she said.

UNY has long established itself as an inclusive university, ensuring that students with disabilities receive appropriate academic accommodations and support services. Through the Disability Services Center, the university provides accessible learning environments, assistive technologies, and various forms of academic assistance to help students succeed throughout their studies.

For Yasmin, being accepted into UNY marks the beginning of a new journey. She hopes her story will inspire other young people with disabilities to pursue higher education confidently and never lose hope in achieving their aspirations. “Never be afraid to dream just because of your limitations. Keep believing in yourself and continue striving, because every person has the opportunity to succeed,” Yasmin said.

Her achievement not only opens the door to her own future but also serves as an inspiration for many others, reinforcing the message that inclusive education enables everyone to realize their full potential.
