Quiet Achievement: Liring Anindya Graduates Cum Laude at UNY

Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) highlighted its commitment to inclusive education with the inspiring academic achievement of Liring Anindya Maharani, a deaf student from the Faculty of Sports Science and Health (FIKK).
Despite facing hearing limitations, Liring successfully completed her studies with a Cum Laude distinction and a GPA of 3.75. She enrolled in the Sports Science program in 2021 through an academic achievement admission track.
Liring also engaged in non-academic activities — in 2023 she represented the Special Region of Yogyakarta in the Turnamen Futsal Senusantara and helped her team win third place.
During her studies, she encountered communication challenges in the classroom, especially when lecturers wore masks or spoke quickly. She overcame these by: • Sitting in front row seats, • Communicating actively with lecturers, • Taking detailed notes and studying with classmates.
Support from UNY — including guidance, regular monitoring, and motivation from the campus’s Language Service Unit (ULB) — played an essential role in her success.
Liring hopes that UNY will continue to expand inclusive, flexible learning for students with disabilities, both on-campus and online.
