Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) once again affirmed its existence as a leading Indonesian university with a series of remarkable achievements in various global university rankings for the 2025–2026 period, reflecting its strong commitment to improving the quality of education, research, sustainability, and contributions to both global and local communities.

In the Times Higher Education World University Rankings (THE WUR) by Subject: Education Studies 2025, UNY entered the 301–400 range in the world, placing itself as the top Indonesian institution in education studies among 767 universities from 87 countries. In the 2026 edition, UNY climbed to the #201–250 range worldwide in the same subject — a leap that demonstrates improved academic and research quality on the global stage.

In the QS World University Rankings 2026, UNY was placed in the #1201–1400 range globally for overall university ranking, highlighting its recognition as one of Indonesia’s publicly known universities in global ranking databases.

UNY also showed strong performance in the QS World University Rankings by Subject: Education and Training 2026, ranking #251–300 in the world in this field. Another important achievement was entering the QS Sustainability Ranking 2026 in the #1061–1070 range worldwide — an indicator of UNY’s commitment to environmental, social, and governance sustainability.

Regionally, UNY earned recognition in the QS Asian University Ranking 2026, placing at #425 in Asia, further strengthening its position among universities in the region.

UNY also appeared in the THE Impact Rankings 2026, ranking #1001–1500 worldwide, which evaluates university contributions toward achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

At the national and global digital level, UNY performed well in the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities 2025, placing #16 nationally and #2,685 globally, indicating strong digital visibility, openness of data, and scientific reputation through publications and citations.

Another unique achievement came from the Jawametric 2025 ranking, where UNY was ranked #3 nationally for the development and preservation of Javanese culture as part of its intellectual contribution.

In other rankings such as UI GreenMetric 2025, which assesses campus sustainability and environmentally friendly initiatives, UNY achieved #18 nationally and #95 globally, affirming that the university excels not only academically but also in social and ecological responsibility.

Prof. Soni Nopembri, Head of the UNY Ranking Team, expressed pride in these achievements, stating that the rise in rankings — especially in THE WUR by Subject, QS rankings, Webometrics, and Jawametric — reflects UNY’s continuous efforts to improve academic quality, research, digitalization, and sustainability. He added that UNY plans to strengthen international collaboration, attract top talent, and enhance education innovation that aligns with global challenges.
